GHS Strings has been making high quality strings for fretted instruments since 1964. The initials come from its three founders — Gould, Holcomb and Solko —; in 1975 the company passed to Robert McFee, and it has been winding string in the same corner of Michigan ever since: its home is Battle Creek.
Its flagship set is the Boomers, the series the company has built since year one and which earned the nickname The Power String: nickel-plated steel over a round core, with the brand's own reinforced twist that survives the hardest bending without drifting out of tune. A bright, balanced string, as tied to rock as it is to blues.
At DJMania you will find its electric sets in the usual gauges — .009 and .010 — and, above all, an uncommon depth of single strings. Being able to replace just the one that broke, in the exact gauge, is the kind of thing you appreciate the night before a gig. The range is completed by Fast Fret, the brand's classic applicator for cleaning and lubricating strings and fingerboard, and the most viewed product of the brand here.
