Nord is a Swedish keyboard manufacturer founded in 1983 and based in Stockholm, where Clavia DMI still designs and hand-assembles the instruments. They are recognisable from a distance: the red chassis has become a visual signature as identifiable as the sound.
The brand made its name with the Nord Lead, which popularised virtual analogue synthesis — modelling the behaviour of a classic synth digitally — and has since held a very specific place: the keyboard that goes on stage. Light enough to carry, tough enough for touring, with the controls to hand so you can change sound without diving into menus.
